Malaysia, Sweden and Spain number among those who have claimed to have seen and gave refuge to Nicko Marzano. But when interrogated by Donnacha all deny they still harbour such a velvet wearing rogue. Ticket stubs from art-house cinemas with traces of blueberry muffins  give Donnacha his only clues as to where a man who paradoxically loves slap-stick comedy and fine cuisine could be.  Could refusing to learn any local languages, besides forms of English, be holding Donnacha back (as his search moves further east)  from  finding a man who picks up dialects for fun to taunt locals about their pitiful lifestyles? Could an e-mailer to the site actually be right, in that there never was a Nicko, that Donnacha  has been putting on the most unconvincing Italian accent for the past year in an act of total narcissistic control? Or could Nicko have written the second half of this opening passage to throw off the scent? But right now only one question really matters, how do you make a podcast when all your staff go missing?

On this episode we see what tweaks Neill Blomkamp  made to his short film with a cash injection of $30 million to his full-length directorial début District 9 and we look at why Disney Pixar’s first Full Length 3d Animation Up can’t just be called Up, could it be that Pixar just figured out googling the word “up” isn’t as brand friendly as they hoped. All might be explained in this episode of Beyond the Exposition

After months of long-distance phone calls, Donnacha arranged to have Nicko shipped back to Ireland in a coffee crate. (packing contraband in coffee grinds throws off the sniffer dogs.) When Nicko learned that Donnacha was more interested in brewing up some premium Italian espresso than retrieving a disgruntled co-host, Nicko left Major Headache Productions. The two parted ways, until Nicko’s Euro-smoozing finally came in handy. He kindly stepped in to defuse an escalating international incident between Donnacha and his effortlessly glamorous French neighbours – caused by Donnacha’s attempted commandeering of Mr Aumont’s wife. It was only after this Donnacha and Nick put aside their differences that a settlement was reached.  By way of reparation, the two had to record a themed podcast showcasing French cinema. (Everyone else makes “movies” or “films”; the French only make “cinema”.)

Where better to start our enforced Francophilic episode than with an English film about Manchester United: Ken Loach’s Looking For Eric. Then we take a bemused look at Anything For Her, an example of a modern mainstream, yet pleasing form of French grayness. And finally, in a segment we like to call Things We Like Now You Must Like Too, we will be looking back at Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s (who’s French, surely) 1991 masterwork Delicatessen.

Following Nicola’s disappearance after the previous podcast, Donnacha tracked him down after an epic two month search through England, Spain and Denmark. In a public statement Nick said “he was glad to be back in Ireland working at eating blueberry muffins and being paid by Donnacha in honey, like a cartoon bear”. Donnacha has since denied any allegations of mistreating staff and has hired a friendly  P.I. to keep an eye on Nick and make sure he is working and stays in Ireland. However as of April 26th Nicola is currently thought to be back home in Italy. A retrieval unit has already been sent out with a promise to double his honey allowance.

With the Oscars fallout still ongoing, a drought of American films of any genre has led us to this episode being an  Eurocentric pod. From France we have last year’s Cannes Film Festival’s Palme d’Or winner Entre Les Murs. From Sweden is Let the Right One In, a coming of age love story between a boy and his vampire. We go through all your questions in the newly re-branded section “How Would We Know”, and finally in “Things We Like Now You Must Like Too” is Sidney Lumet’s future predicting 1976 classic Network.

Recent speculation of Donnacha and Nicko being deported back to Cork and Italy respectively was falsified by the media, they were only detained. The two are now back and they have watched some films for you. You can’t  keep a good  legal immigrant  down.

It is February 2009 so the world has dumped all of its big fancy film dramas on us. Yes this is the time of the year when films get longer and serious, like when a castaway  finally cracks open a coconut and realises how little liquid is actually in them. This month however we found some entertaining films with a glint in their eyes. First up is Milk, where Sean Penn acts as usual and James Franco’s credentials get better and better. Then we travel sideways in time for the retelling/reenactment/documentary of the infamous Frost/Nixon interview in Frost/Nixon. Finally in Stuff We Like Now You Must Like Too we take a look back at Francois Truffaut’s almost lost classic La Nuit Americaine
